Adsorptive removal of methyl blue dye through magnetically retrievable BaFe<sub>12</sub>O<sub>19</sub>-activated charcoal-chitosan composite powder: kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamics studies

BaFe12O19 (BaM) hexaferrite was synthesised through the coprecipitation method. BaFe12O19-activated charcoal-chitosan (BaM-AC-CS) composite ultra-sonication assisted water in oil microemulsion Morphology of BaM hexaferrite, activated charcoal, and BaM-AC-CS powder evaluated using FESEM. The average particle size 60 µm. exhibited a surface area 41.5 m2 g ?1 pore volume 0.041 cm3 g?1. magnetic behaviour analysed vibrating sample magnetometer. Pure ferrite showed saturation magnetisation (Ms) 69.3 emu coercivity 2670 Oe. Ms value 26.8 which sufficient for efficient separation it suspension. point zero charge (pHpzc) 6.7. used adsorption methyl blue (MB) dye solution pH 6 at 303, 313 323 K respectively. removal capacity increased with increase temperature. process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic model satisfied Redlich-Peterson as well Sips isotherm. maximum ability 254.6 mg free energy enthalpy changes confirmed spontaneous endothermic nature adsorption. also good five consecutive regeneration cycles. All these results suggest that will be viable material MB wastewater treatment.
